Council
The Scottish Church History Society represents a broad church, so to speak. Our Council members, elected at the Society’s AGM, are keenly interested in church history and bring different expertise. Among our past presidents we count the University of Edinburgh’s Professor Stewart J. Brown, a leading figure in the field. As well as featuring established and early career researchers, the Council includes church ministers, archivists, and enthusiastic lay people.
In recent years, our former president, Professor David Bebbington, successfully oversaw the introduction of two annual conferences. The mixture of academic and independent researchers found upon the Council is echoed in our conference programmes; papers are welcomed from established historians, research students, and those who devote their spare time to the history of the church in its many manifestations.
